This arrangement of John Rutter's
energetic organ piece has been scored by
Bob Avant for 5-7 octaves of handbells
plus roughly 3 octaves of handchimes. As
the title hints, this work is written entirely
in 7/8 meter with the eighth note grouping
shifting from 2+2+3 to 3+2+2 throughout
giving it an unexpected, yet intriguing
rhythmic quality. There are a large number
of bell changes and a middle section that
mixes handbell with handchime sounds.
Adding to the challenge of performing this
piece is the suggested tempo marking of
quarter = 152-184. This is an exciting
piece to practice and perform and would
be a great opener or closer to a concert.

Toccata in Seven
will easily become an
audience and ringers favorite.
